Shivneri Fort History

 Shivneri Fort considered to be the birth place of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj .Shivneri Fort holds high esteem in Maratha and Maharashtrian history. Inside the Shivneri Fort, there is a temple that is dedicated to Goddess Shivani Devi.

Shivneri Fort is a hill fort located at northern side of pune Junnar as it's base .It is the birth place of Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of Maratha Empire and Swarajya. The fort was built by Shahaji Raje, Shivaji's father, to secure his son and wife Jijamata from mugals and natural calamities.

19 February 1630 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born on Shivneri Fort.

At the center of fort there is a water pond which is called Badami Talav. To the south of badami Talav there is Statues of Jijabai and young Shivaji. In the fort there are two water springs called Gangas and Yamuna, which have water throughout the year.
